ICON unveiled how it could build a 650-square-foot house with cement in a single day at SXSW, an innovation and film festival.

The non-profit organization is now working with ICON, an Austin, Texas-based construction tech company.

3D printed houses, according to him, is one of the more promising technologies for creating habitats in the future.

Despite the fact that the hardware utilized as a part of 3D-printing is very exorbitant, notwithstanding, the materials can be cheap.

"Conventional construction methods have many baked-in drawbacks and problems that we've taken for granted for so long that we forgot how to imagine any alternative", says Jason Ballard, co-founder of ICON.

The homes now cost £7,200 ($10,000) to construct and take up to 24 hours to build, but for the production version this cost should be reduced to around £2,900 ($4,000).

The team are looking for $600,000 for the next phase of research and development and also $400,000 of funding for 100 printed homes.

Partnering with housing solutions nonprofit New Story, the Texas builders are hoping to achieve their vision of creating sustainable, "quality homes accessible to everyone".

According to People Magazine, the Keeping Up with the Kardashians star's baby shower was held at Los Angeles Hotel Bel-Air. There have been some photos prior to this, but a lot of them weren't sexy.

Even though the machinery used in 3D-printing is quite costly, however, the materials can be low-cost.

Now we can print virtually everything with 3D printers, although they do not all have social and humanitarian criteria in mind. "Linear methods will never reach the billion+ people who need safe homes", said Brett Hagler, CEO of New Story.

'For this venture to succeed, they have to be the best houses.

New Story is also involved in urban planning, and can build homes around schools, play areas and employment opportunities.

With this proof-of-concept, both the companies now plan to build such small, inhabitable houses for the deprived families in El Salvador and Haiti. That's not all, the company is also already looking past El Salvador and the United States into space.

There are other groups which are working on printing houses.

The portable printer is created to function with near zero-waste and to work under unpredictable constraints (limited water, power, and labor infrastructure) to tackle housing shortages in underserved communities throughout the world.

"One of the big challenges is how are we going to create habitats in space", Ballard said.
