He stood off to the side in the Detroit Lions' indoor practice facility Wednesday afternoon, slipping in late and becoming inconspicuous as his new boss, Matt Patricia, was formally introduced as the team's new head coach. Patricia got back on the sideline as a defensive line coach at Amherst College in 1999 and went on to be a graduate assistant for Paul Pasqualoni, whom he has hired to be Detroit's defensive coordinator.

All that said, he's still the same pencil-wielding Patricia.

"I think it's hard to really categorize a "Way, '" he said". He and Lions general manager Bob Quinn worked together for a dozen years in New England.

"Before we talk about anything like that, I think first and foremost what we need to talk about is the [NFC North] division", Patricia said.
