Former Everton manager Koeman has been out of a job since he was dismissed by the Premier League club back in October.

"Koeman has just signed a contract that connects him to Orange with immediate effect up to and including the World Cup 2022".

Koeman has been out of work since being sacked by Everton in October a year ago after a surprisingly poor start to the Premier League season and will take his first role global role since working as an assistant coach with the Dutch team in the late 1990s.

A statement from the Dutch FA (the KNVB) said: "The KNVB has reached agreement with Ronald Koeman about the appointment as national coach of the Dutch national team".

He replaces Dick Advocaat, who oversaw the country's unsuccessful World Cup qualification campaign for Russian Federation this summer. As a player, Koeman wore Oranje 78 times, but he is now tasked with guiding Netherlands to Euro 2020 and then the World Cup.

Is the pressure of managing Everton finally getting to Ronald Koeman?

He has also coached Vitesse Arnhem, Benfica, Valencia, AZ Alkmaar, Feyenoord and Southampton.

Advocaat left the post following Holland's failed qualifying campaign for this summer's World Cup, where they could only finish third in Group A behind France and Sweden.

Advocaat stepped down from the role after failing to guide Holland to Russian Federation, in what was his third spell in charge of the national team.
