Cavaliers trading Thomas to Lakers for Nance, Clarkson

While Rose and Wade have missed a combined 44 games this season and have a lengthy injury history, Clarkson has played in all but three games over the past three seasons.

CLEVELAND (AP) - With their National Basketball Association title hopes fading fast, the Cavaliers got aggressive at the trading deadline.

The Cavs had lost their eight previous network broadcast appearances this season, prompting James to say last week following a lopsided loss to Houston that he and his teammates should be dropped from any more telecasts.

Clarkson is owed $26 million over the next two seasons and Nance, who was drafted 27th overall in 2015, has one year remaining on his rookie contract at just $2.2 million. He's the energetic, bouncy big man the Cavs haven't had coming off their bench. Meanwhile, Hood provides instant scoring and can function as either a good starter or a risky weapon off the bench. And any defense he provides will be a boon to a team that lacks any sort of viable rim protection.

Just like that, the Cavs traded almost half their roster, got younger and maybe wedged themselves back into contention to make a fourth straight Finals appearance against Golden State.

Thomas was one of the key parts of the trade the Cavs made this summer that sent Kyrie Irving to the Boston Celtics. Or maybe they have more trades up their sleeve? "It's probably obviously something that they felt was needed".

The fine marked the second time the Lakers were publicly admonished for tampering, after Pelinka earned the Lakers a $500,000 fine in August for discussing the future of Paul George with George's agent, Aaron Mintz.

More good deeds included buying a van and ice cream for Overtown Youth Center, where it was clearly very much appreciated. I'm just a girl from Denmark, SC that wants to MAKE IT and be somebody and for you to see my hard work means the world.

Los Angeles Lakers rumors came to fruition this morning. This move wasn't about that for the Lakers. The Cavs take on almost $27 million in additional salary with Clarkson, who has 2 years remaining on his deal. If that is the case, this very well could be the move that really ends James' reign over the East, and leads to his eventual departure (which probably would have happened anyways).

The massive makeover is meant to help the Cavs make another title run in 2018 with James, who can opt out of his contract this summer and become a free agent. Good, nice, great young team. They did so by sending out Nance.

Giving up their own first-round pick does hurt, but they had to include it to get the deal done, and it was going to be a late first-rounder anyway.

Despite the Lakers' long-held emphasis on this summer, the free-agent class the following year is even more robust, with Kawhi Leonard, Klay Thompson and Jimmy Butler all potential targets.

Then, an hour later, ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski reported that the Cavs pulled off a massive three-team trade with the Utah Jazz and Sacramento Kings.
