Auto Expo 2018 highlights: Electric Vehicles steal the limelight

This is the World Premiere of the 2nd Generation Honda Amaze and the vehicle is scheduled to be launched in India in FY 18-19.

Among its wide range of electric vehicle concepts was e-KUV100, India's first electric SUV which combines the benefits of an SUV with the unique advantage of an electric vehicle.

Speaking on the occasion Mr. Yoichiro Ueno, President & CEO, Honda Cars India said, "HCIL has shown robust sales growth of 15% in CY 2017 and 17%in the year 17-18 so far". The concept vehicle symbolises Maruti Suzuki's commitment to helping develop the entire life-cycle of EVs in India, including local manufacturing of components, charging infrastructure and recycling of batteries, the company said. These new models are scheduled to be launched in India in FY 2018-19. The Diesel version starts at Rs 6.73 lakh and goes way up to Rs 9.15 lakh.

A new, updated Mohave has already been unveiled internationally, and the model on display in India is unlikely to be launched here.

"We will launch nine new products till 2020".

The home-grown vehicle manufacturer, Tata Motors too has displayed two of its EVs, the all-electric versions of the Tiago & the Tigor at the 2018 Auto Expo.

Lucas Warren , 18-month-old baby from Dalton, Georgia, has been declared the victor of the annual Gerber Baby Photo Search. They were shocked when they received the news that Lucas had been chosen from more than 140,000 entries.


Among other electric vehicle concepts were a compact two-seater concept electric mobility pod "UDO", a futuristic urban mobility concept "Atom", lithium-ion battery powered three-wheeler "Treo" and a zero-emission electric bus "e-Cosmo". The concept vehicle is Maruti's first electric vehicle and it will be launched in India in 2020.

Toyota Kirloskar Motor unveiled its Yaris sedan which will mark its entry into the mid-sized premium auto segment in the country in April. Thereafter the media contingent moved with clock-work precision and moved onto Honda Cars India.

The All-New 5th Generation Honda CR-V SUV gets enhancements in design, driving performance and comes with advanced functions and features. The much awaited Civic will be available in both petrol & diesel engine options when launched in India.

Industry lobby body Society of Indian Automobile Manufactures has said that they have 48 members in their group, of which only about 50 per cent have been participating during the event that happens once every two years.

Similarly, two-wheeler maker Honda Motorcycle & Scooter (HMSI) plans to launch 11 new models, including a concept scooter from its electric mobility platform.

Four months after the showcasing of XPulse as a concept in Milan, Hero MotoCorp unveiled the first 200 cc adventure motorcycle and debuts in 125 cc scooter segment with Maestro Edge 125 and Duet 125. It also unveiled two scooters - "Maestro Edge 125" and "Duet 125" - at the expo.
