Secret Holt said her daughter Bailey was a "perfect sweet soul".

Her friend, Baleigh Culp, told the AP in a text message that they were joking and laughing until they heard a loud bang that sounded like someone's books hitting the floor.

"She called me and all I could here was voices, chaos in the background". "I kept calling her name over and over and she couldn't respond".

The juvenile court judge found probable cause to keep detaining the teenager as authorities gather evidence to support trying him as an adult for the attack at Marshall County High School, Assistant Marshall County Attorney Jason Darnall said.

UNIDENTIFIED REPORTER #2: The school called to report an active shooter around 9 in the morning.

Some say it will be good to get back to some semblance of normalcy by reopening the high school, but for Whitley, the thought of going back is too painful.

'We waited and waited for her to get off the buses and she never did, ' Mrs Holt said. "I'll be taking communion for them, light a candle for them".

"This is one of the hardest things for me to ever have to paint", she said. The trooper's daughter had been dropped off at the school that morning, and she and the victim were wearing similar clothing, Sanders said. "Because that's just the kind of person she was".

'I don't know if I can go to court and see him.

"She was ideal in every way", Jasen told WKRN.

"Her smile was so contagious", Davis said. One mother said that she felt complete terror when she learned of the shooting.

'Even though she was 15, she had already decided her career was going to be a labor and delivery nurse, ' Mrs Holt said.

She added that her daughter was "just so kindhearted and the most unbelievable kid anybody could ever ask for". Secret and Jasen Holt waited for Bailey to walk off one of the buses.

The slain students were identified by state police as Bailey Holt and Preston Cope, both 15, state police said.

One of the injured students, Gage Smock, was shot in the face and remains hospitalized at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, according to Jay Tapscott, who runs J-Mack BBQ in Calvert City, where Smock worked.

Kentucky State Police Lieutenant Michael Webb said the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives are assisting the police as they process the scene.
