North Korean logistics officials arrived in South Korea on Sunday after a previous cancellation briefly cast doubts on the North's participation in next month's Winter Olympics.

It was unclear whether the cancellation cast any doubt over the preparations for the North's participation in next months Winter Olympics in South Korea's Pyeongchang, an apparent diplomatic breakthrough after months of high tension over the North's nuclear and missile program.

It said the united Korean delegation would be led into the Olympic Stadium for the opening ceremony under the Korean Unification Flag which would be carried by two athletes, one from each country.

Figure skating - skating pair Ryom Tae-Ok and Kim Ju-Sik have been given a place, despite missing the original registration deadline.

However, the decision to field a unified ice hockey team has sparked a sharp backlash in the South, including from younger South Koreans upset that an unchastened North Korea is taking the spotlight.

The IOC approves the request of the NOCs of ROK and DPRK to have their delegations marching together as one under the name "Korea" at the Opening Ceremony.

North Korea's delegation, including sports minister Kim Il Guk, did not stay to brief media after signing the agreement for the cameras.

Three places have been allocated in cross-country skiing, with two men and one woman to compete, and another three in alpine skiing, again with two men and one woman to take part, the International Olympic Committee said.

Last week, the South's government proposed sending a 12-member team to the Mount Kumgang area and Masikryong Ski Resort in the North's eastern region in a three-day programme beginning Tuesday (Jan 23).

He went on to say: "The Olympic Games show us what the world could look like, if we were all guided by the Olympic spirit of respect and understanding". There are apparently few objections to the North Korean presence at itself, which likely ensures that the country holds off any significant weapons test or other aggressive acts that would risk disrupting the games.

A North Korean band, dubbed as the "army of beauties", is set to travel to rival South Korea for the upcoming Winter Olympics in February.

A delegation of 150 North Korean athletes and supporters will attend the Paralympics, Seoul's Unification Ministry said.

"It includes singing and dancing parts as well", Chong Chi-yong, artistic director of the Korean Symphony Orchestra and part of Seoul's negotiating team, told a local daily.

"In our opinion, the direct dialogue that started between Seoul and Pyongyang, as well as the agreements that were reached during it, give grounds to believe that during the Olympic Games, the situation on the peninsula will be relatively stable", Morgulov said.
