Farmers Insurance Open: Tiger Woods plays down title expectations at Torrey Pines

Woods hasn't played a US PGA Tour event since missing the cut at Torrey Pines previous year, when he was returning from an 18-month absence.

But this week, they're not going to get much attention unless they win.

I am hoping this time the surgery worked and Tiger will be able to compete regularly this season. "I haven't felt this good in years", he said.

For all the success Woods has enjoyed at Torrey Pines, there have been a few lows, which have dominated his last couple of showings at the tournament: Injury forced the American to withdraw after only 12 holes back in 2015, and past year he missed the cut completely.

The 22-year-old played solid golf on a tough course to finish T6 at last week's Singapore Open and will be looking to maintain that form over the two layouts used for this week's event.

"I was good with my irons, I drove it pretty good all week, and made some good putts", Woods said after the tournament. They're special players. I would love for the game to give us Tiger getting back to where he was so we could see what he would do against Justin Thomas, Dustin Johnson, Jordan Spieth and Rory McIlroy.

"I just want to play on tour and get into the rhythm again. I'm going to grind", he added.

"More importantly, I got to spend time with my coach Vijay Divecha and with the big changes that have happened, we put in a lot of work". I'll also be targeting players with good proximity numbers as well.

Unfortunately this one is exclusive to the Google Pixel smartphone line-up and may become available in the near future. The feature was announced back in December but is finally starting to roll out to Android Oreo 8.1 users this week.

"I've played with Tiger when he was playing the best he's ever played, and it was a real treat to see it - although it wasn't a treat to be humiliated by his dominance. I only met Jon (Rahm) yesterday for the first time".

Woods enjoyed a memorable moment at Torrey Pines in 2008 when he defeated Rocco Mediate in an 18-hole playoff at the U.S. Open, somehow defying a double stress fracture of his left tibia and significant knee damage to claim victory. But what Woods recollects of that day isn't just excitement. I know, we've heard this one before, so it's best to take a step back and be honest for once. If he can play well, make the cut and walk away healthy, I will be ecstatic.

Brandt Snedeker has 40/1 odds to win this weekend I think he is a nice dark horse option.

A T33 finish past year included a final round 70 on a day when only 13 players went lower and with the confidence gained from a PGA TOUR win and his Australian PGA Championship victory, he will be looking to go even better this week.

"I was really young back then trying to prove myself and lucky enough to win".

At the Hero World Challenge, Woods did look better than many expected. He said the surgery he opted to have is a big reason. He has said that there were times when the pain had been so bad he couldn't get out of bed.

"He just won two tournaments with one round", the caddie said, and he was right. "Now I have to do the tournament". So fresh is this start that it's easy to forget that Woods played in this event a year ago, missing the cut with rounds of 76 and 72.

On Tuesday, 14-time major champion Woods and Australian world No.14 Day beat the bumper crowds anticipated for Woods' first full-field event in 11 months by playing an early morning, nine-hole practice round at Torrey Pines golf course near San Diego. The same group goes off at 12:30 ET Friday.
