Chelsea are set to take their season's spending past the £200m mark after making a £15m bid for Everton midfielder Ross Barkley.

The deal could be completed in the coming days, with the BBC claiming he will have a medical at Stamford Bridge today (Friday) ahead of a £15 million transfer.

As per reports, Barkley is only a medical away from joining the Premier League holders as Antonio Conte's is all in to cut a deal with Everton manager Sam Allardyce before the transfer window closes.

Spurs have been long time admirers of the Everton man, but it now looks like they will miss out on the enigmatic 24-year-old.

He had been heavily linked with move to Tottenham Hotspur throughout the summer, with Mauricio Pochettino thought to be a huge admirer of the England worldwide, however it looks as though his future lies at Premier League Champions Chelsea, just days after Antonio Conte moaned about not getting the olayers he asked for.

That's according to "The Times" journalist Paul Joyce, who has developed a reputation over the years for being one of the most reliable in the industry when it comes to news relating to the two Merseyside clubs.

Barkley is said to be close to fitness after an extended injury lay-off which necessitated surgery on his hamstring and has seen him out of action this season.

With Gylfi Sigurdsson, Davy Klaassen and Nikola Vlasic already at the club, his departure may not leave the Everton manager scrambling to sign a replacement.

It will mean the player is leaving Goodison Park after 13 years, having joined Everton as an 11-year-old in 2005.
