Looking at the image of the space shuttle, this movie is said to be the first time the X-Men will be venturing into space. Dark Phoenix may very well borrow from Lilandra's various comics appearances to shape her role within the film.

As for the film's timeline, in keeping with the trend of Days of Future Past and Apocalypse, Dark Phoenix will take place a decade after the events of X-Men: Apocalypse, specifically in 1992.

The first X-Men: Dark Phoenix photosof Sophie Turner have been revealed, and she is absolutely on fire as Jean Grey.

Mystique, Beast, Quicksilver, and Magneto could meet their end at the hands of the Dark Phoenix, or perhaps Jean herself is going to die. James McAvoy, who plays Professor Xavior, told EW it promises to be "the most emotional X-Men we've done and the most pathos-driven". After the X-Men are sent to space on a rescue mission, "a solar flare hits the X-Jet and the surge of energy ignites a malevolent, power-hungry new force within Jean - the Phoenix".

Jennifer Lawrence, James McAvoy, James Fassbender, Nicholas Hoult, and Evan Peters are all returning for the film, even though their contracts expired after Apocalypse. X-Men: Dark Phoenix, the next installment in Fox's mutant shared universe, is hitting theaters in a little less than a year.

Entertainment Weekly published a bunch of new images from the upcoming "X-Men" film, which will be directed by Simon Kinberg, including the one of Chastain. I'm not saying every movie needs to be political, but they all have the potential to be about so much more than destruction and boss battles.

In June, it was announced Chastain was in talks to join the cast as a villain.

Dark Phoenix marks Kinberg's first attempt as a director, with Jennifer Lawrence remarking how different the set was compared to previous shoots.

If you don't want to know any plot details for the next X-Men film, turn back now. Though he wrote the screenplay for Last Stand, he did not direct it, so this will be the director's debut in the storyline and it's something that he holds close to his heart.
