Low temperatures Friday morning should be in the upper 30s. Low temperatures Thursday morning should be in the middle to upper 40s. A cold front will come through Saturday night into Sunday morning, and there will be a wave moving along the fronts Sunday night into early Monday.

Preliminary snowfall projections indicate that up to 3-6 inches of snow could fall by Friday evening across northern MA along the New Hampshire and Vermont borders, with snowfall amounts falling off to the south and east. This may be enough to cause local high water issues. Expect a mainly dry, mostly cloudy day with high temperatures once again in the 70s.

The arrival of cold weather this week breaks a streak of above-normal temperatures for December.

According to meteorologists, the jet stream - a river of air that tends to keep polar conditions far to the north of Texas - will plunge southward this weekend, allowing bitter arctic air to invade the southern Plains. Once the rain chances arrive, they will stick in the forecast through Saturday.

Mostly fair skies should continue Wednesday night.

The storm will move through later Friday to the north and east, so beware on Friday afternoon and evening if you're heading toward New England. Cloudy, with a high near 21. Low about 37. Chance of precipitation is 80 percent. A few flakes will mix in with the rain during the afternoon.
