Two unidentified terrorists were killed during an overnight encounter with security forces in Shopian district of Jammu and Kashmir today.

Khan said that the operation was launched after getting information regarding the presence of militants in the Shopian area.

The forces laid a cordon and started advancing towards the house, but the militants hiding there fired volley of bullets triggering an encounter.

Police said the slain militants were involved in a number of terror incidents including the December 11 attack on the vehicle of J&K Bank near Poju Shopian in which two bank guards were killed. On Tuesday, while the Indian forces were carrying out searches at the site, the exchange of fire resumed again triggering a fresh gunfight, they added. He claimed that the civilian died in cross firing between militants and armed forces. "The civilians threw stones and bricks at them triggering clashes".

"During the cross-fire one lady identified as Ruby alias Beauty got critically injured".

In yet another bloody clash between civilians and the military on the Indian side of Kashmir, one woman has died and several other people have been injured in the Shopian district.

In a statement, the leadership said that the "ongoing killings" of innocent men and women by Indian trigger-happy forces is agonizing.

The state administration has ordered the imposition of curfew in at least six police station areas of Srinagar city and at some places in Shopian.

Jammu and Kashmir have witnessed a rise in civilian casualties this year.

Meanwhile, the killings also led to intense nocturnal protests at the University of Kashmir. Last year, 15 civilians were killed and 285 were injured in similar events.
