Black Lives Matter activist Erica Garner, the daughter of police chokehold victim Eric Garner, has died after suffering a massive heart attack. "No one gave her justice", she wrote.

Eric Garner died on Staten Island in July 2014, after being put in a chokehold by police officer Daniel Pantaleo.

Ms Garner was a mother-of-two, and had a son in August whom she named after her father.

Eric Garner's pleas of "I can't breathe!" as he was put into an illegal chokehold by officer Pantaleo helped galvanized the Black Lives Matter movement.

During the 2016 USA presidential campaign, Garner endorsed the bid of Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders to become the Democratic presidential candidate and slammed the Clinton campaign when leaked emails revealed they were discussing how to use her father's death as political capital.

Erica's family tweeted this from her official account: "When you report this you remember she was human: mother, daughter, sister, aunt. her heart was bigger than the world".

She "suffered major brain damage from a lack of oxygen while in cardiac arrest", a family member wrote on Erica Garner's verified Twitter page on Wednesday. Bernie Sanders during his run for the Democratic nomination for president in 2016.

Garner became an activist and spoke out against police brutality after her father's death was caught on cell phone video in 2014.

"These people will co-opt anything to push their agenda", Garner said, calling out Clinton's campaign team on Twitter. "I have had the privilege of joining with her at a number of events and was deeply impressed with her courage and insights".
