Russian Federation has scrambled a Su-30 fighter jet after detecting an American Р8А Poseidon reconnaissance aircraft over the Black Sea, according to a Defense Ministry statement.
Approaching at high speed, the Russian jet, equipped with air-to-air missiles, came within five feet of the USA aircraft during the 24 minute incident.
Russia's military responded Tuesday by saying its jet had been dispatched because the USA plane was approaching its borders "at high speed", according to the state-run TASS news agency.
"Unsafe actions have the potential to cause serious harm and injury to all air crews involved", Baldanza told the outlet.
The Russian Sukhoi Su-30 fighter jet reportedly crossed in front of the U.S. P-8A Poseidon aircraft on November 25, flying as close as 50 feet, and turned on its afterburners, Lt. Col. Michelle Baldanza, a Pentagon spokeswoman, told CNN.
