Antonio Conte took a shocking decision of dropping David Luiz for one of the biggest fixtures yesterday and what surprised everyone is that the Brazilian was not even named on the bench.

Chelsea now head into the worldwide break on the back of their win over Jose Mourinho's men and Christensen has key World Cup qualifying action on the agenda with Denmark.

"We must be pleased", Conte added.

According to the Daily Mirror, "Luiz paid the price for questioning Conte's tactics in a team meeting last week".

"[It was] only a tactical decision, I repeat, only a tactical decision", he told reporters after the match.

"I have to put my face in every situation and then to sometimes make important decisions".

"I decided this way tonight, maybe I can decide a different way in the future or I can continue the same way". "The coach has to make the best decision for the team, and tonight it was to play for Christensen and have (Ethan) Ampadu on the bench, good players for the present and future".

"Sometimes I can make mistakes".

"I'd be happy to eat humble pie if I'm wrong - and there's part of me that will be pleased if I am because I've a lot of respect for the guy".

The Spanish striker stayed at the Premier League champions until the end of the season, but was sold to Atletico Madrid in September after being told that he was not in Conte's plans for the new campaign. "But I do the best things for my team".

Various reports have since emerged detailing Luiz how reacted to being dropped, with the Times saying he feels like he's been unfairly singled out. I saw him play against Roma [a 3-0 Champions League defeat] the other night and he didn't look anywhere near it.

The post-match Chelsea chatter was all about David Luiz, following the defeat of Manchester United - but the real story was the man wearing the Brazilian's boots.
