Jude Law Lands 'Captain Marvel' Male Lead Role

Forget Dr. Watson and 221b Baker Street; former Sherlock Holmes star Jude Law is now in contention to play Doctor Walter Lawson (AKA Mar-Vell) opposite Brie Larson in the Captain Marvel movie.

Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck, who co-directed Half Nelson, will direct the movie and Ben Mendelsohn will play the villain.

He's played lotharios, vicious villains and movie heroes, but he's never appeared in a Marvel movie, until now.

The Captain Marvel cast is now small, but growing. The significance of the film can not be understated as it is the first female solo-outing for a Marvel superhero after a slew of male-centric features. Mar-Vell was the original Captain Marvel who passed his superpower-laced DNA onto Carol, helping her become the new Captain Marvel (but she was Ms. Marvel at first, because comics are confusing).

So basically, dogs are great because they keep you happy and keep you active, which keep your ticker ticking along nicely. Researchers looked at 3.4 million Swedes aged 40-80 who went to hospital and who didn't have any previous heart disease.

There's no word on what character Law would be playing but early word is that he would be a mentor of sorts to Larson's character in the film. It's also thought Samuel L. Jackson may show up as a younger Nick Fury. One thing we know for sure: the film is going to be a bit of a prequel for the MCU, set almost 20 years before the events of the original 2008 Iron Man.

Marvel President Kevin Feige previously stated that the alien Skrulls would play a role in the film.

The Fantastic Beasts sequel comes out on November 16, 2018 while Captain Marvel hits theaters on March 8, 2019.
