UW (12-0, 9-0 Big Ten) moved up one spot to No. 4 in the College Football Playoff rankings revealed Tuesday. Auburn, even with two losses, would make it because they'd have two wins over the then-No. The Tigers, who beat Alabama 26-14 in Saturday's Iron Bowl, are the first two-loss team ever to be ranked in the top four.

Auburn sits behind Clemson, which ascended to No. 1 this week. In the coming weekend, Clemson will play Miami in the ACC championship, Auburn will play Georgia in the Southeastern Conference championship, and Wisconsin and Oklahoma will play top-10 opponents, Ohio State and TCU, respectively, in the Big Ten and Big 12 championships. The lack of a marquee nonconference win - their game against Georgia Tech was canceled, although that wouldn't have helped much anyway - has hurt them, and they're far out of the conversation. The Big 12 and ACC were the only other conferences to record multiple championships with two apiece.

At the top of the CFP rankings are No. 1 Clemson (11-1), No. 2 Auburn (10-2), No. 3 Oklahoma (11-1) and No. 4 Wisconsin (12-0). Alabama easily has the best loss compared to Miami and Ohio State.

The Hurricanes (10-1, 7-1 Atlantic Coast Conference) were ranked No. 2 in last week's poll, but they fell out of the top four after a 24-14 loss at Pittsburgh in the final game of the regular season.

Alabama coach Nick Saban made the case for the Crimson Tide to still make the College Football Playoff, but Alabama will need some chaos to slide into the final four. "Certainly not maybe in this game, but I think the team we played tonight is a very good football team - probably one of the best teams in the country". Barrett was named one of three finalists for the award, joining Penn State running back Saquon Barkley and Wisconsin running back Jonathan Taylor. That game will be a rematch of a September 9 USC victory at the Coliseum. An 11-2 Pac-12 champion USC? Alabama should root for Wisconsin to win if TCU beats Oklahoma earlier in the day. LSU (9-3), 18. Washington State (9-3), 19. The victor will get the Group of Five's guaranteed spot in a New Year's Six bowl game, but those teams are not even an afterthought in the playoff conversation.

Undefeated and underdogs, the Badgers would make things easier on the selection committee by beating the Buckeyes.

The other three bowls have no contractual obligations, though one spot is reserved for the highest-ranked champion from the Group of Five conferences.

Michigan State is 16th in the standings.

Let's take a look at the top 25.

Clemson: Win and you're in 2. The Bulldogs would be 12-1 with an SEC championship and wins over Auburn and Notre Dame. If the rankings held it would then turn to No. 5 Alabama, which is the highest-ranked available team meeting that criteria. Georgia checked in at No. 6. Penn State (10-2), 10.

Orange Bowl: No. 7 Miami vs.

The AAC victor is probably going to the Peach Bowl. The Trojans and Frogs have similar resumes now, and a win over No. 3 Oklahoma might give TCU more ammunition to make a jump.
