A Sydney, Australia, real estate agent is being hailed a hero after video of her saving a small Port Jackson shark stuck in a rock pool in Cronulla went viral.

The incident happened in Cronulla, south of Sydney in New South Wales, and was captured on video before with it posted on Cronulla Real Estate's Facebook page.

Ms Hatheier then carries it over to the pool's ledge and throws it into the ocean, as huge cheers are heard by those watching on.

Hatheier has become an internet sensation after the courageous act.

An Australian estate agent who picked up a shark and heaved it out of a beachside swimming pool played down her bravery today and said she would have thought twice had it been a great white.

"I rounded up the kids and we headed to the pool". I started to swim around him and he became a bit stressed and started to knock his head on the rocks. So I said, 'I think I can just grab him.' So I herded him into the shallows and then I just sort of got on my knees.

She added: "He wasn't that heavy but his skin was very rough, like sandpaper".

Ms Hatheier told local media: "My mum swims there every morning with friends and they rang me saying there was a shark, so I ran down there".

Hatheier said she made sure to grab it around the neck so it couldn't swing around and bite her, The Sydney Morning Herald reported.

Hatheier told The ABC she may not have been so brazen had the shark been a bigger breed, however.
