"Akhilesh Yadav is all set to be elected as SP national president for the next five years because soon after Assembly poll, Akhilesh had revised the terms of state and national chief from three years to five years", he said.

The 44-year-old former chief minister has steadily sidelined his father Mulayam and uncle Shivpal in the party they formed 25 years ago. Samajwadi Party general secretary Ram Gopal Yadav proposed Akhilesh Yadav's name for the presidentship. "I told him that it a big convention and amendments in the party constitution will also be passed and without your blessings the party can not progress", he said. He said that Akhilesh would leave for Agra from Lucknow by road in the morning and party workers will welcome him on the way. On the national front, there is the 2019 Lok Sabha elections and on the domestic turf of Uttar Pradesh, the next state assembly polls are scheduled to take place on 2022.

A high-level meet is now underway at the prime minister's residence with a major announcement expected soon, reported CNN-News18. The Kerala Chief Minister also reminded him about Uttar Pradesh's track record in health.

Find us on Facebook too! In a special convention of the party on January 1, Akhilesh then replaced his father as party national president and removed Shivpal from his post in the party as well. The two had also stayed away from SP's state executive meeting in Lucknow where Akhilesh loyalist Naresh Uttam was unanimously re-elected as the state party president on 23 September. Shivpal reciprocated by extending his blessings for his second term as party president. "He (Shivpal) gave me blessings and congratulated me also", he said. Once again the party founder and mentor Mulayam Singh Yadav and his brother Shivpal Yadav missed the event. There were also speculations that Mulayam Singh along with Shivpal may form another party.
