Indian Passport Maintains Mediocre Position in Global Power Ranking

Published by Arton Capital, a Canadian global consultancy firm, the Global Passport Index ranks nations in real time based on their visa-free score, which is curated by their freedom of visa-free and visa-upon-arrival privileges when traveling of their home country. The No. 1 spot comes after a recent decision by Paraguay to remove visa requirements for those carrying Singapore's passport, meaning 159 countries can now be easily visited.

The Passport Index's Global Passport Power Rank 2017 has ranked India at a lowly 75position. Germany is now in second place, followed by Sweden and South Korea at 157.

"It is a testament of Singapore's inclusive diplomatic relations and effective foreign policy".

Passport Index says the city-state grabbed the top spot after Paraguay removed restrictions for Singaporeans.

Passport Index ranks passports worldwide based on the cross-border access a holder has.

Coming in at last place on the updated Passport Index list is Afghanistan, which has a score of 22, followed by Pakistan and Iraq (26), Syria (29) and Somalia (34).

"Visa-free global mobility has become an important factor in today's world", said founder and president of Arton Capital Armand Arton at the recently held Global Citizen Forum in Montenegro.

Historically, the top 10 most powerful passports in the world were mostly European, with Germany having the lead for the past two years. Georgian citizens can enter 67 countries visa-free and 38 upon arrival (total 105 countries).

The Nomad Passport Index, meanwhile, ranks 199 citizenships on five factors: visa-free travel, global taxation, perception, dual citizenship and personal freedom.

Since Donald Trump came into power over in the US, American passports have dwindled in their power with Turkey and the Central African Republic taking away their visa-free status for US passport holders. A surface transformation design also appears on the passport, displaying light reflective and animated effects when viewed from different angles.
