Red Cross seeks volunteers for Hurricane Harvey relief

Houston-based independent Halcon Resources Corp. said Thursday it would match all employee donations up to $3,000 to support relief efforts, in addition to a $250,000 donation to the JJ Watt Houston Flood Relief Fund.

Harvey, which initially battered the Texas coast as a Category 4 hurricane, has become one of the most devastating storms in American history, dumping almost 50 inches of rain in some parts of South Texas and causing widespread flooding throughout Houston. "I am working closely with my team at BeyGOOD as well as my pastor (Rudy Rasmus at St. John's in downtown Houston) to implement a plan to help as many as we can".

Tuesday afternoon, local Red Cross workers set up for a training program where they will teach more than 100 new volunteers important information to help people effected by Hurricane Harvey.

Bullock has a long history of generosity after disasters. More than 1,800 people took refuge from the deadly storm Saturday night in 34 Red Cross and community shelters in Texas. These numbers have grown dramatically as dozens of additional shelters have opened since, the organization said. But the Better Business Bureau is cautioning donors to do a little bit of homework before deciding how to contribute to make sure the money goes to the people and organizations who can help victims in the best way possible. Roads are flooded, rail lines are shut down, airports closed and hundreds of thousands have no power. Water rescues are still occurring and numerous hospitals and nursing facilities are evacuating patients and residents.
