Kane can be Tottenham's Batistuta - Pochettino

The former Toulouse man has already started two Premier League games for Spurs this campaign and is adamant that he will show his true colours with proper preparation for the arduous English season.

Saturday's performance was by some distance their least cohesive so far, losing their shape and objective after falling behind to a fluke Harry Kane cross-shot.

Kane, who has now opened his account for the season, passed a century of Tottenham goals during the Everton match and he believes that the club is well placed to mount another title challenge.

"He was good today", the Argentine coach said, quoted by West London Sport.

Shearer has also called on Harry Kane to lead the charge for Spurs as they look to put to bed what was a very poor outing in the Champions League last term when they finished third in a group containing Bayer Leverkusen, Monaco and CSKA Moscow. "We will just get on with our job and we will keep producing performances like this", Kane said after scoring twice at Goodison Park on Saturday.

"I look at the riches in the squads of the Manchester clubs and the strength in the first teams of Chelsea, Spurs and Liverpool and find no reasons why that should not be the case".

"That does not mean we can not challenge and join them in the latter stages and get past them in a two-legged tie". We play good football and we have been in the title race for the last couple of years.

Kane's opener against Everton was his 100th goal for Spurs - on his 169th appearance - and although he has earned plenty of individual recognition and awards, he is yet to lift a trophy as a Tottenham player.

"Now I feel good and ready to fight, like everyone, and to try to give my best for the team".

I'm not sure I buy that Sissoko's crappy 2016-17 was down to him not having a preseason with the team, although it does make things harder.

If he manages that, then there is every chance that those goals will help propel Spurs to glory.

He was also delighted when Swansea won their battle to survive in the top-flight last season. "I am just focused on the pitch and for Sunday's game".
