Android Oreo may soon get support for custom themes without rooting

XDA dug even deeper to discover ADB shell commands that allow for overlays to be enabled or disabled over Android, and one of the lead developers on the Substratum team then confirmed that he'd also discovered these and was actively using Substratum themes on Android 8.0 Oreo without the need for root access or a custom ROM. Also, the software brings notification panel improvements, is said to be the most secure and fastest versions of Android, but that is to be confirmed by the users when time comes.

Earlier this week, the famous company, Google, announced its collaboration with a few companies including HTC, Nokia, Huawei, LG, Motorola, Samsung and OnePlus. To which HTC replied, "We're excited to bring Android Oreo to HTC U11, HTC U Ultra, and HTC 10 owners worldwide!"

Users who have Google's smartphone offerings will get the first wave of Oreo roll outs. Same is the case for the supported Nexus devices, namely Nexus 6P, Nexus 5X, and Nexus Player. This will be addressed with the latest Android flavor. Your wireless carrier and phone manufacturer also have to configure with the software before it can get to your phone.

The list doesn't include some of the major brands - Samsung chief among them - but we expect more brands to come forward with their Android 8.0 Oreo update schedules in the coming weeks.
