The group has a long history of opposing Sharia, which is a legal or philosophical code derived from Islamic scripture and meant to guide the behavior of observant Muslims.

Between 2008 and 2013, the report found, ACT for America was one of 33 anti-Muslim groups that had access to more than $204m in revenue and helped push for legislation targeting Muslims. SPD spokesperson Sean Whitcomb would say only, "We believe City Hall Plaza is the best venue for the event". The perpetrator allegedly pledged loyalty to ISIS. To Presler it highlighted a problem of anti-gay bigotry in orthodox Islam. The query, he said, prompted responses from conservative activists across the country.

PRESLER: My email has been just pummeled with activity.

Among those who answered Presler's call is Denise Zamora.

But some folks from both groups told Q13 News they worry the rhetoric could get out of hand.

Mary Whelander, Leader of Action Together, said "I also know that our country is better than that".

There's a lot of talk about hate - the hatred some Muslims hold for those they consider "infidels", and the hate many in the West harbor for Muslims as a result of global terrorism, including the 9/11 attacks. They seem to have settled on the argument that those opposed to the march's ugly nativist overtones are "anti human rights" - specifically when it comes to the issues of child marriage and female genital mutilation.

Presler, the nationwide organizer, hopes the marches will attract broad participation. Roper promoted the marches on his podcast, where he said Muslims "are not welcome in our nation and, of course, endgame, on our planet".

Comey to Congress: President Trump Told Him 'I Need Loyalty'
When President Trump fired Comey in May, he referenced the former FBI director's statements that he was not under investigation. I told him I would see what we could do, and that we would do our investigative work well and as quickly as we could.

The movement, however, appears to be in danger of veering in an extremist direction. Bridgitt Garbriel, the leader of ACT, posted a video on Twitter that characterizes the march as an act of patriotism.

In Arkansas, one was organized by Billy Roper, a white supremacist who touted the marches this week on his podcast. "No, Muslims are attacking other Muslims, and we're bringing in these refugees that have the same ideologies". We may not want them marrying our daughters, just as they would not want us marrying theirs. "And ultimately we want to send a message to Muslims that they're not welcome in our nation and, of course, endgame, on our planet".

A group called ACT for America is planning the rally called "Seattle March Against Sharia". Two of Trump's former advisers, Michael Flynn and Walid Phares, sit on ACT for America's board. "Seattle's march is scheduled in tandem with several in major cities across the country". A counter-protest is scheduled for the same time.

"Let them come and exercise their free speech right as repulsive and hurtful the message may be we are not going to stand in their way", said Thasin Sardar; Outreach Coordinator at the East Lansing Islamic Center.

It's time we stop listening to them. "Freedom to practice one's religion in peace is afforded to each of us by the U.S. Constitution and we will continue to defend it vigorously".

Presler said around 500,000 women in the US are either at risk of undergoing or have undergone female genital mutilation, quoting a study referenced by ACT for America on its website.

The prospect of violent confrontations at the anti-Sharia marches have local law enforcement authorities on edge. She's organized a march against Sharia in San Bernardino, Calif.

"The management of all organizations have been in contact with us and everyone has been very forthright", said Deputy Chief Fernando Spagnolo of the Waterbury Police Department.
