Private service, public viewing for Cornell planned Friday

"It's totally out of character for the Chris that I've known and worked with for the last 10 years", his longtime manager, Ron Laffitte, told CNN ahead of Cornell's private funeral on Friday in Los Angeles.

Eulogies were delivered by the likes of Josh Brolin, Tom Morello, and Jeff Ament.

Cornell's widow Vicky and his three children were among hundreds who gathered at the open-air ceremony.

The Hollywood Forever Cemetery boasts "landmarks", or graves, of 171 actors, filmmakers, musicians and other Hollywood celebrities.

A private memorial service for Soundgarden singer-songwriter Chris Cornell has begun at a Hollywood cemetery.

The 52-year-old rocker died last week in Detroit after performing a show with Soundgarden. The toxicology tests will reveal if there were drugs found in Cornell's system at the time of his death.

He and the band walked offstage around 11:15 p.m.

His family also plans to arrange and hold public memorials for fans of Cornell to grieve and pay tribute.

At his final show, Cornell seemed "high" and "was out of character from note 1", lead sound engineer Ted Keedick told TMZ in an interview published Wednesday. Pasich told "Entertainment Tonight" that Cornell was a recovering addict and had a prescription for Ativan, but he may have taken too much of the medication.

He then kept repeating, "I blew my voice, I blew my voice".

Soundgarden disbanded in 1997 due to tensions in the band, and Cornell pursued a solo career. Cornell was cremated at a far more low-key event on Tuesday.
