Interstate 45 Shut Down, Pigs on Road After Semi Crash in Wilmer

A semi-truck carrying a load of pigs tipped over and burst into flames on Interstate 45 in Wilmer around 6:45 Thursday morning.

KRLD radio reporter Chelsea Wade reports there were about 200 hogs in the trailer several hours after the 18-wheeler overturned.

Both sides of I-45 in the area were shut down as the pigs scattered on the road. One group of pigs made made it a half mile away from the scene of the crash.

Animal control, police and others had to corral several loose pigs on an interstate Thursday, following a tractor-trailer crash.

"The biggest challenge was corralling the pigs, keeping them from oncoming traffic and getting run over", said Pon.

Police struggled to capture the pigs, which sprinted miles in both directions on the roadway, as both the northbound and southbound lanes were closed.
