War Machine was found guilty of charges that included burglary, coercion, and battery with intent to commit sexual assault, but the jury was hung on attempted murder charges. Mack suffered multiple broken bones and a ruptured liver. He also threatened to kill her. Koppenhaver was arrested in California after a week-long manhunt.

War Machine, who legally changed his name from Jon Koppenhaver, was given the possibility of parole after 36 years, when he will be 71 years old, according to the New York Post.

Mack, shown here in March, said in court Monday that she knew Koppenhaver would try to kill her if and when he gets out of prison.

"I would really like to say to everyone that they can trust in the justice system", Mackinday said (via MMA Fighting). "There is no reason right now that I should be in the dirt right now laying next to Aaron Hernandez".

"I think you have done a lot of good things in the world, but there are consequences and I have to look out for the well-being of the community", Cadish said. I've hated my impulses.

Defense attorney Jay Leiderman focused on Koppenhaver's childhood, saying the former fighter had witnessed his mother get repeatedly abused by his stepfather. The judge said that she did not think Koppenhaver was "a monster", and that some of his issues stemmed from a hard childhood, but she stated that his actions merited a lengthy sentence. While Koppenhaver turned down two plea deals that led to the lengthy sentence he received, it could have been much worse for the notoriously violent MMA fighter.
