Cavaliers trying to acquire Jimmy Butler

Jimmy Butler could be leaving Chicago, but a potential new home is still up in the air.

After being at the center of National Basketball Association trade rumors for much of the last two seasons, vice president John Paxson seemed to have put an end to the speculation when he gave an interview via ESPN1000 in early May. But what, now that the Celtics have picked up what could be the 12th pick in the 2019 draft in order to move down two spots, they should suddenly be OK with moving their top pick for Butler?

Yahoo's Adrian Wojnarowski reported Monday afternoon that although the Bulls' asking price for Butler "remains elevated", the Timberwolves have already had discussions with Chicago about a possible trade.

This report comes around the same time as reports that the Indiana Pacers have been discussing Paul George with other teams, including the Cleveland Cavaliers.

"The Boston Celtics are planning on acquiring Jimmy Butler", Smith added. Kevin Love would likely be the player sent away from the Cavs to a third team in the deal.

Perhaps that could change - but it's not the Celtics who could facilitate a move that would change the look of the franchise.

Chicago Bulls forward Jimmy Butler (21) drives on Boston Celtics center Al Horford (42) during the second half at the United Center. With that in mind, they could offer the Bulls the sort of "rebuilding package" they might want for a player of Butler's caliber.

It's going to be an interesting next couple of days as we head into the 2017 NBA Draft on Thursday.

That doesn't mean teams will not try.
